I got myself a semi-disposable HP Photosmart D110 (HP17CA09) which not only has built-in wifi (which is automatically recognized by Windows) but also a we interface what allows you to scan, print and monitor the printer from whatever device with a browser (including my Android phone). They'll probably do well in the small office market, though, to add Airprint to the big ol' laser everyone uses.Īs far as I can tell, this product is absolute overkill.
PRINTOPIA SOFTWARE ALTERNATIVE UPGRADE
I'm not sure about their target market - at $100 and with the cheapness of inkjets, the author's situation of not having a substantial upgrade to go to is probably going to be slim. Much like Airplay (well, the audio bits of it anyway), it's a little disheartening to see existing standards be pushed by the wayside for incremental improvements in functionality - but with the possibility of new accessories (portable speakers, printers, etc) rushing to the iProtocols and perhaps locking other stuff out by omission.Īs for this print server, seems Lantronix have done a pretty good job. I was somewhat amused to go look at the specs for the author's existing printer and lo, it has ethernet, wifi, a full print server on-board! But now there's Airprint, so you need to add a print server to the box to make it work.
Well, they want you to get a shiny new printer with their stuff built in (and, hopefully with the Made For i tax attached). Sometimes it seems that Apple's strategy is to have a computing environment with the maximum number of dongles and external peripherals.
